In this case, this will probably be fine. For o in getclassinstances raytrace do replaceinstances o (vrayColor color:black)
I just tested this in Vray 3.40.03 and this problem no longer happens.
Have you tried with the very latest version of Vray?
This issue has been fixed in the latest version of Vray.
I’m not on 4k monitor… I have 2x HD monitors.
Tried in 3dsmax 2016 SP1 and SP3, crashes in both.

(getdir #maxroot) Should give you the root directory in any version back far enough.
