[Closed] Whats your favourite Max Script?

Hey People,

I have recently discovered the joys of scripts & was just wondering what the favourite or most used script you guys use?

Definately the one that gets the job done quickest.
So that by definition would be the ones I wrote myself.

Other than that, I love Bobo’s quick align tool. It interactively moves the selected object and aligns it to the surface normal of any face. It is so cool, I think Discreet is amiss in not making it a standard feature of Max.

Max has that ability now, doesn’t it? Max 7 has a Quick Align and Normal Align… perhaps they don’t function the same way.

Most favourite in the past has been meshTools. For many years you would be a fool if you didn’t have it in your polymodelling workflow!

Well max7 still doesn’t have that tool interactive. That’s the magic of Bobo’s tool, it’s interactive. Pure sheer genius. I use it everyday to place objects in my everyday work.

I’ve even hacked it, in that I’ve boiled down the functionality of it to a function call, so I could put it in other scripts as well.

Orionflame, cspolytools, Meshtools, Cooper-ThreePointCoordinateSystem, and others.

MeshTools, Orionflame, CSpoly, Polymagus, vertalign, BoBo’s softlight, chamfer madness,…

do you all use those tools toggether? or is it enough with orionflame alone?

Not to praise myself, but I need to make a little clarification. Orionflame v0.2 actually has most of the tools in those packages, but as far as features like Slide, Perfect Poly, etc go, only v0.3 has them, plus countless of others.

I can easily say that because I have been working on it about 200 days. This will be a massive upgrade to max’s polytools, which no other app can compete with max in this area, not even the newest ones like modo!

Btw I am not only talking about a skyscraper of features, but workflow, ease of use and many things that will make the modeling process incredibly intuitive.

I would love to upload many showcase videos to have your feedback, but I have been doing the finishing touches, along with waiting for the new site which a friend of mine is doing. But I assure you, this will assist anyone that is into poly/subd modeling.

Saeed & the Chamfer madness: Thanks alot mate

I didn’t thought that anyone using it anymore… Does it work as you want it to?

I’m glad that it still is used around!

My vote for best all-around script would be Spring Joint. It makes it quick and easy to set up secondary animation on ponytails and whatnot. This is something that seriously needs to be integrated into Max, where they could take it one step further and make it recognize deflectors.

I’m surprised no one mentioned Skin Or Die. Amazing collection of tools for Skin, I use it constantly.

If a whole category counts as a favorite, Blur’s scripts are also amazing.

Ever since I started using Martin Breidt’s mb_shortcuts ( http://www.breidt.net/scripts/ ), I’ve been able to really noticeably speed up my navigation of 3dsmax. Maximising the viewport your mouse cursor is over (or changing between wireframe and smooth + highlights, box mode, edged faces, etc) instead of selecting the viewport first might only save one mouse click, but the amount of times I do that in a work day…
His trackview toggle is a great one too.
I also second the blur script suggestion.
