[Closed] UVW transfer controller

Have anybody created an interactive scripted UVW transfer tool?
So that we could apply mapping to a complex object using eg a simple plane?
Somthing like an attribute transfer SOP in houdini.
Is it possible and could bring a result of good performance?

There is a complicated or a dense one, and a lowpoly one with great uv’s.
I want to transfer the uv’s from the coarse to the dense.

Can’t find such a tool.

If you use a UVW mapping modifier then you can aquire the mapping of onother object.
But I don’t think this works with unwrap UWV.

Copy Channel Info only works between channels with the same topology.

You could write a maxscript and copy uwv coordinates between objects if you know their topology and interpolate for the inbetweens. But this is only guessing.
I don’t know what happens if some vertices have applied uvws and some don’t.

Maybe you could change your workflow.
Maybe this feature is part of one of the ‘big tools’ like polyboost?

yeah i´ve been wondering about that also, that could be a great tool to have…you can do it in Maya 8 but not in max ( at least that i´m aware of…)

so if someone know how to do it please feel free to comment here!

The ‘projection’ modifier can do that.

Put the 2 objects at the same place.
Add the modifier on the low res. Pick the hires as reference geometry
Add a projection mapping. Select it in the list and press ‘Project’.
It’s done

hope this helps

not sure of that Arketip, the projection modifier transfers or projects textures from 1 object to another but u need to have uv´s in the object…what we wanna do here is to transfer the uv´s, not the textures…?

Max has a LIMITED ability to transfer UV’s, even so, this may prove helpful depending on what it is you want to do

Look up Surface Mapper WSM in the help. It enables you to project the UV’s from a NURBS object to a mesh object. The NURBS object could be the simple plane (a NURBS plane) that you mention. There are some caveats:

  1. The NURBS object has to completely encompass the mesh object with its projection, because the UV’s won’t tile across the mesh object.

  2. Animating the NURBS object won’t animate the UV’s.

Yes, the projection modifier can project anything you can put on a map channel(uv,vertex color) from one object to another. But In the past tests I did it failed to give me good results. I don’t know if Gator from XSI is better handling these projections, but it sounds like it is
