[Closed] scatter tool
hi…
i’ve been trying to make max work like generative components…sort of…
i extruded a box and gave a taper modifier to it…then created a sun.
and with wire parameters connected the extrude and taper ammount to the solar time.
next i used the scatter tool and distributed the box in a plane in every vertex, i also applied a wave modifier to the plane and connected that value to the sun again…
the sun moves so does the wave values of the plane and the extrude and taper values of the box…
the problem is that since the scatter tool does not have a 4 point or polygon distribution…the box component does not adapt to the new configuration of the plane…
any ideas???
as far as I’ve got the idea – may be you should use an Attachment constraint to attach the boxes so they stick to the plane, before you apply any deformation on it. There was a script by Paul Hormis somewhere, called Attach By Local Z. or something – it can come very handy in your case.
hi azrail…thanks for the info…very usefull scripts…but attach by local z does not do the job…the problems still is the same, the boxes are linked to the plane by a 1 point helper and not by 4 points so when the plane is deformed the boxes do not addapt, they only rotate.

here you can see that the boxes keep the initial form…
thanks again!!!
hi azrail…thanks for those useful scripts…but the attach to z script does not do the job, the problem is still there, the attachment is done by 1 point helper and not by 4 points…so the box component onley rotates or moves…but its base vertices are not glued to the planes when its deformed…

you will get the problem…here is a video where the components dont adapt…
thanks again
