[Closed] Removing redundant materials

Hi,

While merging and mixing scenes, we fastly come with many same materials in the scene put to different objects. They are exact same material, same name, but (don’t ask why …) we can’t use “put to scene” button. We have std material, but also a lot of fr_advanced, fr_glass, fr_metal and so.
So I’m looking for a script that can collapse all these same materials into one, with all objects having these same materials finnaly getting the one.

Seems there is a blur scripts that does that, but I hate blur scripts because we allways have to put tons of icons, macroscript and stuffs like that. I prefer not surcharge max and control each single script I load in max. So if there is just a single script that I can put on a toolbar, this would really rocks.

Thanks

Kib

Hate is such a strong word

Sorry I couldn’t distribute the scripts seperately, but considering the work involved to do that, I’d have written maybe only half of the scripts I had because I would have spent all the rest of the time fiddling with individual zip files and copying and pasting code from files to files.

That being said, you could try getting the blurpack and installing only two files, the bslib file and the KillDupicateMaterials.ms file and the script may work. Can’t guarantee it, but it may be worth trying it out.

Hi soulburn3d, don’t talk it personnally, it isn’t, I’m very fussy with hardware/OS/softwares to get as fast and stable machine as possible. And it isn’t about your scripts functionnalities at all, you know it.
Many thanks for your advice, will try that asap

It was your use of the word “hate” that suggested something personal vs a pipeline choice. Sorry for misunderstanding. Hope you find what you’re looking for.

Soul, I’ve installed it with just the two files you said, dragdroped the script on a toolbar, and work like a charm with very hudge scene and full of fR_materials.

Many thanks

Glad it worked.
