[Closed] pflow particle collision

Hi there,

I have a basic pflow scene with a sphere and particles raining downing and colliding with the sphere where they stop and move onto the next event. I am wondering if there is a way to then move the particles along the surface of the object they hit. As a general rule for my simulation I want them to move in the negative Z direction, so basically I want them to slide down my object until they reach its bottom and drop off. I realise that pflow tools might enable me to do this, but I would like to attempt this in MAXScript if possible. Bobo I emailled you about this not long ago, thought I might be able to find some more hints on here. I am guessing i need to effect the vector of each particle, maybe if I could move each particle down and then project it out onto the surface of the object, that may work but would not be very accurate.

Again, I am not spending alot of time on this, just an idea i want to test out on the side of my work. Let me know if you have any ideas?

Thanks,

Nathan

You may try watching Allan McKay’s Drip System Video from the tutorial section of his website. Also, I would suggest getting his Advanced Visual Effects DVD from Turbosquid. It has a couple of videos on the drip system with sample files and much more.

Hope this helps,

Yes, i have watched his tute on his website…no disrespect to allan but I was hoping to take his system a little further, in the hope that I could get the particles to follow the surface a little longer. I have had a few ideas that may fake this, I will have a play around with it

I am pretty sure I answered that email

Howdy,

Yeah you did, thanks for that!!

…so, what was Bobo answer? Is it possible to do such things using maxscript? How fast they are?

hey,

bobo suggested to use particle flow tools as it provides a way to lock / unlock particles to the surface. Haven’t tried them yet, need some $$$$$$$$!!
