[Closed] new usericons path what do you guys think?

In max 2015, they have moved usericons folder form Appdata path to max root folder.
so, how will this effect max installations with default administrative privileges?
will I be no longer able to peacefully copy my icon files via .mzp files?!
what do you guys think about this move?

Check the attached image.
The userIcons folder is in AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2015 – 64bit\ENU
Nothing is moved.

The path is there bro. But max doesnt use it…
getdir #usericons returns the new path inside installation folder and max wont use the old paths. can be a problem in my installation?

Which folder is used depends on your “useUserProfiles” settings in Installsettings.ini in the max root. If its “useUserProfiles=1” the folder in the user appdata should get used , if it’s “0” the one in the Max root should be used…

i don’t have max 2015. can user change this useUserProfiles setting via max UI, or it’s only possible by modifying the Installsettings file?

no UI for that – one has to modify the Installsettings.ini file
BTW: this ini file and useUserProfiles exists since ages, don’t know when they introduced that

In my expereience, the installer simply always installs that file with “UseUserProfiles=1”. Maybe it changes that when creating deploy packages or whatever ( never used that ), but i don’t know. I think Autodesk simply folllows some Microsoft guideline here, which commands that no user settings or data should be stored in the application root folder
