[Closed] New MXS Editor
Finally! MXS ProEditor: Link to specs
Thanks devs. I coulda swore I heard whisperings of this, I had started to make one myself with .net stuff but I’m glad I stopped. Does anyone know if the new editor has tabs for multiple open scripts?
The new script editor seems very powerful. I think I’ll switch to this MAXScript ProEditor very quickly when 3ds Max 2008 will be released :).
I hope it has tabs for multiple open scripts, otherwise it would be a big mistake…
Maybe tabs fall under the “support for user customization” portion of the editor.
I can see that this is positive change. The current “editor” is nothing more than notepad with code coloring that never works properly. However I’m not really that excited about this since I’ve been using ConTEXT for writing maxscript for years already. It has tabs, code coloring, tabs, you can execute scripts straight from it (using mxscom.exe), line numbering, multilevel undo and plus dozen other features. The only thing it really lacks is collapsable () tags (fold or whatever it was called in maxscript pro editor). And so far it has never crashed.
Since its not strictly maxscript editor it also has color coding for all standard languages C/C++, Perl, HTML etc. so I have consistent workflow when working with any code (okey I use VS2005 for big projects…)
I really hope they’ve taken an overall approach, and integrated it into all areas that max can be scripted, such as scripted controller dialogs. I’m not holding my breath though
Dave they have not done any more work with scripted plugins if that is what you are asking or Custom Atribute defs. This is a tool for writting code, not a change in Max script itself.
Hi Paul,
Yeah I know. I just think its strange that the code window in scripted controllers or such like is bascially notepad. Writing code there is no different from writing any other code, so why the step back to the stone age?
Lets have it all integrated, please
be interesting to see how it compares to using something like crimson ed. like many, I use this currently but still find the Visual MXS thingy quite useful to sketch out UI layouts quickly. So i end up using Crimson ed and Normal MXS editor, which isnt perfect. bulletproof UIs are a pain and take forever!
I for one can’t wait! < :
might be time to get all that stuff finished thats on my hard drive!
BTW Dave, good point and of course, you’re right it should all be integrated.
