Is posible, but not through maxscript.
Check the limitation in demo version of GrowFx plugin, it creates a tree in viewport, but it cannot be converted to mesh, exported or any things like that, also because of this limitation the tree geometry cannot be rendered with plugins like, Vray/Fry/Maxwell… very interesting how did they manage that.
