[Closed] MS to Mel Ettiquette?

I have a fairly simple Max script (simple as far as I know). Several folks have requested Maya Mel versions of this scripts. I can’t do it and nobody that has requested knows how to do it.

What is the ettiquette for asking somebody here to do MS > Mel conversion? Is it frowned upon or casually okay? Cross-posting? I really don’t know how well this flies around here or the proper way of asking.

If it’s a freeware script and it’s for the community I don’t think any request is being frowned upon. I sure hope in 2009 the “my software is better then yours” wars are somewhat over, so for me it’s a very valid and okay thing to ask here.

Unfortunately, I don’t know mel Maybe someone else can jump the gun, or maybe you should just post in the mel forums and ask a mxs>mel convert to help you out.

My 2 cents,

I dont know why you think this will be frowned upon ! Many of us work on both Maxscript and Mel, and it should be fun to do this … I could take it up if you wish … point me to the MS.
btw, as JHN mentioned, is it freeware ?

You may try posting this in the Maya MEL forum, since you will find people there that know MEL and may be able to make the conversion for you. Also, have you looked at Bobo’s MEL2MXS comparison guide?

I guess I’ll give a shot right here.

Yes, it is free. Just a simple script to export mapping channel data.

Mult-CH File Stuff

If you want to peep some MCH files, check the Reposityr.

From there, I use my own Photoshop filter to bring mapping goodness into PS CS2: Multi Chan Hax

I use this all the time. And a few folks have expressed interest in a Maya Mel version of the exporter. I don’t have access to Maya, so here I am.

Effort put into this greatly appreciated.
