[Closed] Mirroring morph targets

I am trying to mirror morph targets so that I can cut the time it takes to create them in half. I’ve found various scripts that tout to do it, but have found limited success in using them. The best one I’ve found so far was the Santa Mirror Morph. It seems to work for all of about 2 sec, then reverts the face to the base object, effectively making them both look the same. Something I noticed about the scripts/pluggins I’ve found, is that none of them have been updated in over a year. I was wondering, Since I am using Max 8, is there a feature in there that does what I’ve been trying to find and I just don’t know about?

Please help.

You could try mine, it’s not infallible but it may help.

Mirror Morph Pre-Alpha

That was one of the 4 I tried. Sorry but I couldn’t get it to work properly. I also gave PEN’s script a try since it was included in the Facial Rigging Tutorial DVD that I bought, but I’m still trying to work out why it’s not working.

Use the Transmographier, it works a treat

All of the mirror morph scripts work by looking at the neutral, unchanged mesh, comparing that against the target you are interested in mirroring/symmetrizing, and performing some basic vector math to translate the verts. Most implementations of this method require the model to lie on the origin of the scene, so that the “centerline” of vertices all lie on an X position of zero. For the entire process to work correctly (it may seem like black magic), the model just needs to be super clean, and it needs to have a clear, matchable, left and right side. The method remains relatively unchanged, thats why these scripts haven’t been updated in a while. I would recommend my own, but if Wahooney’s and Paul’s aren’t working, I’d recommend taking a closer look at your model and your process.
