[Closed] MAXScript 2012 Reference sucks

Hey,
I dont like what they have done to the MXS reference in 2012. Its online and sloow, the Index seems pretty useless to me now (no autosearch while typing, cant use Enter to search, will walk through all links showing pretty useless stuff most of the time) and I cant search using Ctrl+F anymore effectively, cause it will not search only in the article on the right, but also go through the whole search list or index list again. It just sucks and thats why I use the 2011 reference right now. Is there any way to get a compiled .chm version of the online 2012 MXS reference?
Cheers

As it has been stated in another thread, yes, it is TECHNICALLY possible to provide a compiled CHM version of the online help. Please let Autodesk know how badly you want it. In fact I would go as far as suggesting filing a bug against this (just word it a bit more maturely, like “MAXScript Online Reference unusable”) so it gets logged officially. I don’t have the power to release the CHM, but I certainly have the power to compile it

Thanks for the information Bobo. I still dont get it why they changed it, just to have everything online? In three years we will just start a streaming version of Max I guess, lets hope the day never comes. For now I will send a mature, mean and angry bug report to the Autodesk people

I’d like to have that power.
I hope they agree. So you can release a maxscript.chm @Bobo

Is there a way to at least switch it to local version (like main max help) ?
haven’t seen the option…

if you mean as a .chm Bobo has already covered that.
Otherwise you can download the html reference for offline viewing from this here:

No, I don’t mean the .chm, just the html (that you can downbload from adesk).
For the main help, you can go to preferences/help to point it to a local copy.
There does not seem to be a settings to switch the maxscript help to local; is there ?

I don’t like either. At least search seems to be more reliable than with the windows helpfile.
But the html help is stupid slow.
I guess google has to release some kick ass fast web help framework to make this things bearable. Like gmail.
All web help systems suck, but the worst is adobe’s.

Will do on my next few Max crashes, regardless of cause ;).

Don’t do that as the CER will point out that it has nothing to do with the help system. Use the proper bug logging of using the Defect Report Submission Form. I would also log a user voice request. I don’t see any wishes logged for the help file being chm instead of html.

I have logged a user voice request regarding the topic, youre all invited to vote for it:
http://autodesk.uservoice.com/forums/80701-publicsdkandscriptingenhancements/suggestions/2099795-compiled-maxscript-reference-chm-?ref=title

Ill send a defect submission when I get an admin here to tell me the serial number of the max install on this workstation -_-

Done.
