[Closed] Is it possible to use max for shadow area analysis ?
Hi,
I am creating a 3DS Max model of the University of South Florida Tampa campus for VR display in VR4MAX.
One request for using this model is the possibility of doing Heat Island Effect analysis with it and analyzing the total shaded area of the campus for different future Master Planning scenarios.
Is there any way to get Max to render shadows as a hatched area or create a boundary around the shaded area with a closed PLine ? This would be used when rendering the site plan from an orthogonal top view.
Thank you for any help with this request.

You could render shadow passes out of the render elements, both Difffuse and Direct Light if using MR or Vray, and then analysis the luminance of the those images to build geometry from. Might be hard to get a high enough resolution with something as large as a site plan.
