[Closed] Double postings

 JHN

I see some people posting the exact same questions on the area and here… is there anyway to have a sticky or something to prevent that from happening… or am I the only one finding a bit annoying and a waste of time when I answer some question on the area and someone else the same question, with the same answer over here?

You can’t probably forbid it or something but some etiquette will be nice…

Any thoughts?

I completely agree with you Johan.

You should probably post this on the Area so that they realise too.

But that would go against the whole idea now wouldn’t it…

Double posters post on both so only need to read in one place it’s not a nice thing to do… if someone else posts it over there I’m fine with… but that’s the whole thing I’m trying to prevent

my 2 cents…

I guess the mild sarcasm was lost on my reply.

ROFLOL, I did hesitate to reply… I always miss out on the mildly implied sarcastic comments…

Its up to the poster in the end to post where they like, we dont have a police state governing where and when people can post – this is the heart of a forum, it raises discussion to a wider audience. Segregating it to one place, first stiples community growth and secondly confines that forum to be ‘special’ in a way. I.e only going to one forum to find answers to a particulars posters question.

As to ettiquet, what is ettiquet when its a forum? its pretty much a soap box preaching stand for anyone and everyone. To govern policing across multiple forums you’d need a code of conduct across the web – something that there trying to do with blogs.

This first stiples growth and the point of blogs and forums – to share. And secondly there right to what they want to say and discuss.

I do not agree. I also seem to remember from the past people where asked if they could at least post a question first on 1 then on other forums… I don’t feel it makes one more special then the other… I like both and there’s lots of helpfull people around who are frequent posters on both forums…

I don’t think you’re making a police state if you ask people politly for some “nettiquete”, I know it’s common practice on newsboards, to post in 1 place. So why not here, the area and cgtalk are so closely connected…

Again imho it’s a waste of time for different people posting the same answers to the same question… if you can ask people politly to stop double posting, it helps to keep the helpfull people get less irritated, when they invest like 5/10 minutes to figure out your problem.

I know you’re a regular poster too, but couldn’t you care less if you posted an answer here (took you 5/10 minutes) and lets say Bobo or Pen the exact same answer over @ the area…!? Seems to me like totally wasted time someone else good get help…

And it’s not a soapbox… why would we have moderaters then?! This is no anarchistic webboard, some rules and ettiquetes do apply… or you will be banned…

So again, I do plea for some nettiquete, not by the cost of banning or anything, please don’t get me wrong, I know some people need a quick fix. But let’s keep it as friendly for everyone as we can…

*ends preaching

*edited out some typo’s…

Why don’t you squelch the OCD and ignore the doubles? There are a lot of valid reasons to post a question on the only two active MXS forums that exist on the planet.

dude you shouldnt let this get to you so much,
it depends if its two of the same in one forum or two of the same in differnt…

e.g i might post the same topic in maxscrip and the general forum, for the reason that i might be of interest to the general max community as well as scripters… the general population may never visit the maxscript fourm… but two in the same forum… welll what i normally do is just ignore both posts… simple
