[Closed] decal object

hey there,

does someone ever made a kind of “decal object”?
I had a look at the “crysis editor” and do also know it from other level editors.
It is a “plane dummy object” that can be put over a 3d object and projects a texture with an alpha channel on top of this object, it’s material/texture, respectively. This is a great solution for bringing some dirt and stuff on a texture without destroying the object-texture’s seamless power.

What about blend materials??

Yes, I know these techniques like the one on 3dtotal (tutorial).
But it would be very cool and more easy to do it in the way I described before.
More intuitive…

But thanks for your answer

Would you need to create a “overlay” shell for the object? Or would you simply “extrude” part of the surface?

edt: Sorry, wrong post

overlay the “decal texture” with whatever texture an object beeing under this “decal object” has… hui, that sounds complicated (sorry, I’m a german guy  )

edit: kind of projection UVW…
