[Closed] Confused by scripted manipulators

I’m interested in creating some scripted manipulators, but I don’t seem to be catching on very well. I’m looking at the reference file with the radius manipulator. I copied the script into a text file to run it, but nothing actually happened. I was under the impression that I go to create -> helpers -> manipulators and it would show up there, but there is nothing.

I checked in the stdplugs\stdscripts folder, and a copy of the script file was created there. I tried reloading Max, and still nothing. I’m sure there is something very simple I am missing here.

(I looked in a few other threads and noticed that there is apparently some kind of tutorial by Bobo called “The Secret World of Scripted Manipulators,” but have been unable to track it down. Is this available on DVD?)

That tutorial is available on the Autodesk subscription site. So you need to be on subscription to access it.

Have you turned on manipulate mode? Manipulators aren’t helper objects that you create. Their helpers that get activated when manipulate mode is turned on, and the type of object it works with is defined in the script itself.

Ahhhh ok. I (sort of) get it now. So these are different than the ones under create -> helpers -> manipulators?

Also, what part of the Autodesk site can I find the tutorial on? I don’t suppose I could get an actual link to it?

It’s on the subscription site. If you don’t know what that is then you’re probably not on subscription and don’t have access to it.

I might subscribe if I knew where to sign up, lol.
