[Closed] BerconMaps development thread

kiitos,
the 14001 error is resolved with the VS sp1.
But I can confirm there is a size issue with the tile when using DR, the main machine is rendering the tile correctly, but the spawners are rendering it wrong, like they’re not considering the size factor or something.
Best,
Cyrille

Hi, i can confirm that there is something strange with the size i can reproduce in multiple computers and files. After closing and opening the file, the tiles are giant but changing the size just by a small value and returning to the previous one, solves the problem temporary, since in the next open the problem returns.

UPDATE: I think the problems relies on a call to Update() in Reset() in the code for the BerconTile, i remember i also had some problems with some of my texture plugins due to calls to Update in the constructor (in this case Reset). Commenting this seems to solve the problem.

Best regards,
Daniel

I have asked our in-house programmer if he would be able to compile the tool for us with this change. Not sure how extensive a problem it is, but we are getting ready to jump into Max 2011 and don’t really want to find out.

Would it be possible to get a 2011 compile of the pre 3.0 version of the maps for backwards compatibility with some of our current projects?

Same here. We would love a 2.0 version for 2010 so we can script a tool to transfer some of the parameters. At the moment, we are either going to drop it all together or write params in 2009 to persistent variables then rebuild in 2010… neither option is my favorite way of doing things. It makes batch processing that much more difficult.

Any help would be much appreciated. If we write the transition script, I’ll share it here; though I suspect it won’t be a perfect solution.

Thanks to all,

j

I am also having the problem with the tile size not being initialised when the maxfile is opened.
would it be possible for you to post the recompile if you manage to fix it?

Thanks.

Hi,
Here is a recompiled version with the problem solved, but it’s only for max 2010-2011 x64, if i have time i will recompile for x86. But probably this should be done by MasterBercon, since i don’t have here all the max SDK’s installed (my oldest one is 9). Also there is a different dependency of VC runtime since i used the default VC 2008 to recompile.

Best regards,
Daniel

You could try passing the source to David Baker at maxplugins.de and see if he can do the recompile for you. He handles the maintaining/updating of various plugins.

The Max 2010 x64 version of 2.0 is working with Max 2011 x64, so far.

For BerconMaps 3.0 I have decided that I need to wait for some updates before moving it into production use.

One thing I have noticed is in the tiles, Color #1 Color #2 and Edge map slot do some pretty crazy stuff when used as a bump map. The result comes out perfect if the map along with any and all embedded maps are in the diffuse slot of a material, but when they are moved to the bump slot it seems that some of the wires are crossed:

EDIT: I don’t know if this might help to find the problem, but when viewing the map through Max’s material/map navigator, Color #1 is called Color 1, Color #2 is called Color 3, and Edge is called Color 2.

EDIT2: Wow, I think I made it even more confusing with the example…

In the bottom left instance, the Color 1 / Color 2 maps are swapped, not inverted.

In the bottom right instance Color 1 / Color 2 are still swapped, but it is the Color 1 map that remains and Color 2 is replaced with the map from the Edge slot when the lock is on.

I think it is starting to show that I have been messing with this for a while now

Here is the source with the modification.

Best regards,
Daniel

Keep up the good work!

I have found that the 2.0 versions that I had around for 2010 work perfectly fine in 2011. If you can get your hands on them then that is an option. Actually I am currently just using the older version altogether since there are some deal-breaking issues with using the newer maps in a production environment. I am assuming the reason for the changes and the older versions being pulled was to fit the tool into it’s open source license, of course that is only an assumption and quite possibly incorrect.

Fingers crossed that the old maps remain compatible through the coming versions of Max.

Hey Bercon – First off, your Plugin is all kinds of awesome!

I do have one small request though… Could you please put the “solid” checkbox for noise maps back in?

I only found BerconMaps a month or so after you had just removed that functionality (due to having been created by a 3rd party.) If you can could you make an earlier version of BerconMaps available for download which contains that functionality?

Thanks,
