Should Additional Help entries be added to the plugin.ini file within the 3ds max root folder (i.e. $max or getDir #maxroot) or the user’s max settings folder (i.e. $maxData or getDir #maxData)?
There has always been a “Help” section in the plugin.ini file that would add entries into the Help Menu > Additional Help list. By default, there is only one reference in this list for the Mental Ray docs.
My script adds a help entry in the maxRoot plugin.ini file, but I’ve noticed that it occasionally creates duplicate entries in the maxData plugin.ini. The maxData plugin.ini file and the Help Menu > Additional Help list now show over a dozen duplicate entries each for both the Mental Ray docs and my script’s help files. (This is in 3ds max 9 SP2, and I have not had 3ds max 2008 installed for enough time to see if the behavior is still going on.)
Is this because I set that entry into the wrong file, or is this a bug? Is there a set standard for adding help entries like this? I’ve never seen a mention of the subject in any of the docs or any forums…
