[Closed] What is alembic?

Hello on another forum someone wrote about alembic.
There was also link to http://exocortex.com/alembic
Somone could say anything about that?
I have never used maya or softimage so i don’t know what man in movie is making exactly
Honestly i didn’t watched all movie. All i see is that it is some kind of exporter.
Someone knows why it is to brilliant (few man wrote that)…For me it is one of many formats only. It looks like FBX or something supporting animation.
