[Closed] The IKEA Challenge

For those that don’t know the placement tool in 3dsmax 2015+ came from IKEA, sadly it’s missing the best feature.

Challenge, about 23 mins into the video Martin shows the ‘earthquake tool’ for making things a little random using Bullet. Could it be matched and/or made better?

Below from Martin, I love the simplicity of it.

The physics simulation is using a physics engine and is a plugin. Only one button setup. All hidden geometry is not used. All non selected will be unyeilding and all selected gets hardbody physics properties. It’s not available from us…but I hope some of the software companies will steal and improve it

What is the challenge? Is it to make a good working, simple to setup and easy to use tool for IKEA for free?

The Challenge of Generosity

Nope, they have theirs, this is more about bringing it to the masses and whether we could make it better in fact, I’d be happy to pay for a small tool, as I think a lot of other people doing things like architecture would be.

28mins in there are a few more challenges they are interested as well.

You might look at Physx Painter

As for Renderer agnositc material description, this is what the new Physical Material is all about.

Hey Guys,

I’m actually kind of intrigued by their browser based asset system. Do any of you know how to make that connection between the browser and 3dsmax in order to merge the model.

I’ve attended a few EUEs where Martin Enthed presented some of the tools used at IKEA. His talks are always a joy to listen to and you can be sure you get to see something awesome.

I think he has shown that bullet-based ‘shake’ tool 2010 or 2011 and you could hear the crowd losing it because it looked so easy to setup and use. Everyone in the room wished this would be available publicly at some point. A few years passed and still nothing comparable is available as far as I’m aware.

Nice post, looking forward to what you guys come up with

i’m looking same 3ds max physics and gravity plugin any ting help me

This is some fantastic innovation. Figures it was done outside Autodesk.
