[Closed] Security of encrypted scripts

ups, sorry its echo

older max versions – who cares?
as with plugins and programs – protection is only ad interim of course.

2ghostlake114: yep, it’s offtopic. Other people may learn in school, if they need.
most 3d crew even don’t know how to install maxscript, don’t tell about writing. You – when last time you rewrte windows or 3dsmax (not plugins but itself) to suit your own needs? heh, never
If script may help many people to get rid of unnecessary work, why keep it on hdd? it may earn one-two bottles of beer If some may crack it – he made it, but I did what i could to make his life more interesting

[QUOTE=Tertium]older max versions – who cares?[/quotes]
Users of older max versions care

I suppose we could all always only code for the very latest 3ds Max version; I’m sure Autodesk would love it if everybody did just that, might speed up adoption But I guess those on older versions (be that max7 or max2008) must have their reasons for not (yet) having upgraded, and who are we to ignore them arbitrarily?

Granted, if you rely on script encryption, then Max8 and earlier is just going to be right out.

Tertium,

Not to make this into a political thing, but you will probably face most problems in your own country, Russia.

Software piracy is ridiculous there. I’ve heard number of 94% of all software is illegal.

I can confirm myself that I’ve had large numbers of software downloads from russia, but never made a single sale to somebody from Russia. (I think it is the only country where I’ve seen significant numbers of software downloads, but not a single sale)

The reason I bring this up is that no protection you put in your software will ever be enough. You need laws and government that actively try to limit the amount of piracy for software sales to be possible.

This will never reduce piracy completely, but it may reduce it to the point where you can actually make a few sales

As for maxscript protection. Forget about it being secure. It will get cracked the day you release your script (if your script is popular enough).

Take care,
