[Closed] SDK and Plugin Wizard for VS 2005?

Has Autodesk stopped making the SDK and Plugin Wizard available for 3ds max 9/VS 2005?

I can find and download the earlier versions, but there is no offering or even a mention of it anywhere on Autodesk’s site. Seems a bit odd, considering this is needed to write plugins for the current version of 3ds max.

Have they restricted it to ADN members now?

My searches proved frootless, too. I don’t think Autodesk maintains the plug-in wizard anymore. shrug At least the SDK still exists at all.

Here is an unofficial plugin wizard for VS2005 provided by a serious 3ds Max developer:

Thanks for the link, Yannick.

If David has gone through the trouble of creating a plugin wizard, am I to assume that Autodesk never made one for Max 9/VS 2005?

What about the SDK…did they ever create one for 3ds max 9?

Well, it looks like the plugin wizard from David is really just a copy of the plugin wizard that comes with 3dsmax’s SDK.

And another thing. The plugin wizard did recieve some attention during this cycle (for max 2008). We had a developer work on it (In his spare time), and really polished up some wizards. There is still some work to do (of course) on cleaning it up, but it is much better than what came with Max 9. And of course it will be shipping with the 3dsmax SDK.

Ok, so it looks like there actually is a 3ds max 9 SDK that includes a plugin wizard, but it was not updated from the max 8 wizard and it was not entirely compatible/functional in VS 2005 (or with 3ds max 9?). Is this correct?

Also, it looks like Autodesk only released the SDK help in CHM format for 3ds max 9, rather than both CHM and Visual Studio Help formats. Is this correct?

Do you know if the max 9 SDK is available for download somewhere? The max 9 SDK docs are available in CHM format, but I don’t see anything for the full SDK. I’ve installed the 3ds max 9 trial, but no SDK is included.

x64 compatibility was added to 3ds Max 9 so the SDK was upgraded to 64-bits. There were also some additions : Cg support and Path management for example.
Be aware that the template in the wizard for Modifier plugins doesn’t work (from Max 8 SDK, I think it wasn’t fixed by David).

The plugin wizard files come with the 3dsmax SDK and can be found under the :

[sdk]\howto… directory.

In fact, the plugin wizard that comes with 3ds Max 9 SDK wasn’t modified from version 8.
Thanks to Autodesk and this developer to provide a polished wizard!
