[Closed] Python 4 Max 2014

For those that haven’t heard in the extension for Max 2014 there will be official Python support, looks like it’s not a complete replacement for Maxscript, but more of a pipeline integration tool, and you can always run maxscript from Python.

Anyone excited? Got ideas about what we can expect to see from the community of max developers?

I saw that news yesterday, and of course I can not wait to see this baby in action.
September 30 is the day.
I do not think that Phyton will ever be a replacement for mxs but side by side with mxs and .net
it will be a very good team, like in the others 3D Packages where native scripting language still do excellent job. Info about max2014 extension pack.
Must tell that other features are not for “every day use”. Maya users have something to look forward to in maya2014 EP. Also MAXON et the same time will throw new C4D R15, and like always have very large list of improvements which can not be said for 3dsmax.

I am excited and very curious how powerful it will be, as they say “the API will be limited”. The image in the link where they load some Toxik script into the maxscript editor without any syntax highlighting and coloring is quite meaningless and not impressive, so let’s hope the real stuff is better than that. I would love to see PyQt or PySide included for GUIs.

great , very great indeed , does anybody has any further infos ? i searched on Area but couldnt see anything more

All beta testers are still under NDA until it is released so we can’t tell any details yet beyond what has been communicated by Autodesk.

I’ve heard beta testers can’t even tell they’re on beta

Now where did you hear that?

But seriously, I think that applies to implying the existence of unannounced software only

is .net or wpf is not enough to make max UI looking funny?

In the future, each button in max will be rendered by a different UI framework.

haha I didnt even know about the WPF thing. i guess they are sufficient, but PyQt would enable one to reuse GUIs e.g. for Maya and Max. Also I like the Qt framework and find it fast to work with.

I also agree that there are more urgent things to be done development wise and I guess it must have marketing reasons to do the python integration. Hopefully they will do it right and not halfbaked as so much other stuff.

they can’t even be bothered to document what they’ve got and they’re working on stuff like this, hopeless. :banghead:

Yup. if you think globally, then you’re absolutely right:)
At the end users become more confused than excited about new stuff

Some UI elements already use Qt in Max 2013/2014 ( i think the Workspace management window)

This could be really cool! at house of cool we have been developing our own pipeline tool in python and we use python in maya extensively. This will open so many door when it comes to dealing with max files through the pipeline! wealready do that now, but this just might make things easier.
