[Closed] New Script: Spectroscope to EQs

This is my first MaxScript that is worthy of public consumption;

It converts a spectrograph of sound image into frame by frame animation of a graphic equaliser like you’d get on a hifi. You can then wire the sliders to objects in your scene to get your animation going in time with your music.

Its pretty unfinished (little in the way of error checking) and could be better, but it works.

Basically, it works by taking one line of pixels of a 160px wide greyscale image to be equivalent of one frame in your animation. It then divides the row of pixels into a user defined number of groups and averages the pixel values to give a value to apply to the appropriate ellipse. The script also generates the EQ panel for you.

I made my Spectrograph with a Winamp AVS preset I made, which I’ve included in the .zip below, as well as an example spectrograph. I’m sure there’s better ways though.

Be warned, it takes ages to process and the progress bar is… well wrong, but it does work.
