[Closed] Maxscript Editor – File>New Occasionally Results In Max Crashing

Has anybody else experienced this?

Occasionally 3ds Max will completely bomb out after pressing File>New in Maxscript Editor. I’ve just lost 2 hours of work due to this and am really p****d that this keeps happening.

I’ve experienced this problem with vanilla 3ds max installs (no 3rd party plugins) on max 2009 through to 2011.

I use File>New all the time for many years and have never had any problem.

Yes, this still happens in Max 2012. In fact it happened to me yesterday. I thought it might be my fault for leaving Max in an unstable state. The lack of autosave in the mxs editor doesn’t help either.

I use Crtl+N all the time, maybe for that i never met this issue?
Good to know about anyway.

Ahhh thanks for the heads up. I never know that shortcut existed but I’ll be sure to use it from now on. Hopefully this issue only exists with the interface then.

I have had it crash loading .ms files from the editor, but never narrowed down the cause as it was very random. After crash open 3ds Max, open same scene file, open same script, and no problem.

It used to do this to me on the office computer back at Prime Focus – we were running Windows XP 64 btw, not sure if it was related to OS or not.

I have NEVER seen it happen on my home system or laptop (Windows 7).

To this day I have no idea what caused that.

It could be, I’m still on XP64.

I’ve had this issue on Windows 7 32 & 64 bit, max versions 2009 to 2011. It seems to happen whenever you haven’t saved your max scene for a while. Interesting that this doesn’t seem to be affecting everyone.
