[Closed] MAXScript 101
I just saw this. It looks really good, but has anyone ordered it? I’d to hear any reviews anyone has.
I really want to learn MaxScript, but am much better at following a video tutorial rather than a book. So this looks like it might be worth getting.
I just received my copy today. I’ve only watched a small amount of it but if what I’ve seen so far is any indication of the quality of the whole it’s a very well produced class on maxscript.
Some things worth noting,
-there is always something active on screen, including footage of him addressing the viewer, for artists I think this is important, my attention starts to drift on those video tutorials where the viewports are inactive for lengthy periods of time while the disembodied voice of the narrator explains something or engages in witty banter with an annoying cohost.
-his voice lends itself well to narration, his intonation, inflection, anunuciation, etc. is easy to listen to. There’s no monotone delivery. He is however, a soft spoken person so you may have to turn your volume up.
-this is a “home made” DVD, ink jet printing, sticker label, etc. I personally don’t care because I bought it for content not for the packaging but some might.
I’m sure there’s collateral training material on maxscript I haven’t looked at either in my manuals, or in the online help section but I don’t regret buying this DVD. I find it easier to learn something when I can listen, watch, and follow along in the application. That’s not always easy to do if you have to read the training material and follow along.
I second everything robioto said.
My copy arrived last week, and I have to say it’s well worth the money to me.
I’m about half way through the disk and I I know alot more about MaxScript now than when I started. Having the creator of the scripting language sitting there telling you all the basics from the beginning is soooo much more helpful to me than just a manual. The documentation of Maxscript is pretty thorough, but I think my problem alot of the times was just figuring out how to use the documentation in the first place.
This disc is a huge help.
Recommended for anyone who wanted to dive in but couldn’t get past the first hump.

I have also recieved my copy and yes, it looks very good so far. He starts off with VERY basic stuff, but advances some more in the coming modules it seems. I think it will give very good introduction to Max scripting, and the possibilities with it.
I was also very happy with the support – having problems playing in in my DVD, they immediately sent me a new copy and not only of the DVD but also the CD version (to be sure I got it working I expect). That is what I call good service.
