[Closed] LightRigger BETA
I’ve been working on a large scripting project for a year, and I’m now opening the script for beta testing. The installers and a demo video are available at www.lightrigger.com. Comments and Bug Reports are greatly appreciated, but please include which version of Max you are using.

LightRigger is a Maxscript-based, Draft-quality Global Illumination lighting system for the 3ds max Default Scanline Renderer. Here is a summary of its main features:
· Roughly approximates 1 bounce of Diffuse Interreflection
· Built For Speed: Fast Setup & Fast Rendering
· Built For Animation: LightRigger is for 3D objects that actually move.
· Built For Control: LightRigger is a system…not a loose bunch of lights in a ball.
· Uses 100% Standard 3ds max Lights, Links, Controllers, etc. (No Scripted or SDK Plug-in classes of any kind)
FYI: I’ve just rebuilt all of the installers, and they now display the install instructions automatically. The problem with the .mzp extension being changed during the download was also fixed.
I downloaded the video, but it won’t play.
Do you have a QuickTime version?
Just below the link for the video is the link for the TSCC codec from TechSmith, which you need to install before playing the video. Sorry, there is no QuickTime version.
I recorded that video Friday on the first take and put the whole site up as fast as I could for people to play with over the weekend. I’ll be replacing it (possibly with a Flash 8 version) as soon as I figure out how to get Dreamweaver to play it directly from a web page. I’m just gettting started with web authoring and my first attempt didn’t work, so I just put the file on the site and linked to it.
Thanks for the link.
I understand. When you have something else posted. Let us know. I don’t think it’s fair to ask people to install software just to watch your video. Maybe post it on YouTube, or convert the AVI to a codex that ships with Media Player.
The codec is needed because the video is a 1024×768 screen capture, and there are no standard video codecs (in QuickTime or Windows Media) that adequately compress screen capture movies. Compression using any of the standard video codecs would either end up at 200MB or look terrible and even hard to view/read.
Once I get the Flash-format video running directly from a web page, this problem should be over. I’m hoping to get it up and running tomorrow…
John,
Thanks very much for this. I haven’t had time to install or test yet but it looks very interesting. I use other ‘lightdome’ type methods with scanline primarily and this looks like it could simplify interaction with these type setups.
I did watch the video and one thing I would recommend on that is some narration as to what features your describing. I could follow most of it but think some narration would help.
Thanks again.
A Flash 7 version of the demo video is up and working on the website, so you won’t need the codec or the long wait before it plays. I’ll be replacing this later today with a better version that includes audio narration.
