[Closed] Get point3 from point2 Edit poly

I know this is possible somehow but I thought I’d plant a seed here to see if someone else has found the best method for doing this. Basically I have X & Y and want to get the Z values as efficiently as possible, preferably on an edit poly.

nevermind, no one really understood your question.

Yes, I’m not really sure what you mean… You have only X,Y and want to get Z?

the funny thing is that i know some situations where the question makes sense. for example – z component of normal map from x and y…

Precisely, it’s useful in a lot of situations. I just thought that since I was in the max section people would assume that z was height not camera depth, especially since I was talking about point3’s… which are used for pos.

My reason for wanting to cast a ray for this purpose was to plant objects on top of terrain, based on their origin. I didn’t need to do it straight away and the things to search for that were obvious for me didn’t jump out with solutions in the reference so I thought I’d write a brief question. Unfortunately it seems it was far too brief … and I found the solution soon after without even looking.
