[Closed] Beta test

 PEN

Personally I don’t see an issue with what you are doing at all. Would I want to test your script, probably not because I could write it my self.

Being able to encrypt a script for the purpose of selling it is fine in my books and I do it. I also don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to protect my code and sell the combined result just as I would a dll or exe. One that that I don’t do is take others code, encrypt it and sell it as my own. That could be done with an exe or dll just as easy as a script. I also encrypt scripts that I create for clients and they have not directly paid for the work and don’t own the code. I see no reason to hand out for free the work that I do unless I want to.

Denis, I respect the amount of help that you have provided for my self and others and share your expertise. If people want to ask for testing and provide only an encrypted script that is their business and really there is nothing wrong with that. I really don’t understand at all why you are so against them. Would be nice if it was an ms since it is not commercial but it is not.

I would suggest posting threads like this on the regular Max forum as the users are the ones that can test for you. Tool writers are here to learn more about developing tools and want to share their code.

i can be interested to test some tool, but i will not do it. because i will never instal any encrypted script on my machine. and i prohibit to do it for all members of my team.

I also encrypt scripts that I create for clients and they have not directly paid for the work and don’t own the code.

i encrypt my tools too. for example some tools that we give our outsource companies.

I really don’t understand at all why you are so against them.

usually i don’t care about protected algorithms but i want to see what installation/setup does do. i don’t want to lose any of my setting because of poor qualification of this tool developer. and i don’t want to search everywhere in the system directories to clean all memories about this tool when i want to remove it.

that’s exactly want i said i my second post of this thread.

…anyone can do whatever he thinks is right.
anyhow, there are no rules against .mse files.

But those make more sense in the 3dsmax forum.

How many times does anyone found a dangerous (public)script?
Messy…? most scripts, even the ones included in 3dsmax.

The same right anyone has to make something encrypted, gives any other the right to release an unencrypted version. Therefore it’s fine to hide the code for a while.

Encrypted stuff usually does not mean much, because I would probably want to create my own version anyway… That’s the only way to ensure it fits your requirements…

Almost every user would be fine using encrypted versions, and bad scripts…
in fact people who demand open versions are an extreme minority…

I think it’s a lost case to try to convince others not to release .mse files…
