What I don’t understand is why you wouldn’t trust a .mse but you would trust an .exe or a .dll

i don’t trust *.exe and *.dll.
But I can install and try some program if I need it very much. Also I can trust some known developers, or when a developer opens the source.
But I trust more *.exe than *.mse. Because make .exe file needs higher level of qualification. You can’t make a .exe program simply coping/pasting source from free resources.

That is very arguable

agree…

anyways … not having some sort of personal firewall or similar thing active which controls what goes out to the net in our days of constant online is considered being a general security hole by me…

My question is why a developer need the source code? They are developers. They know all the maxscript commands, and know everything about maxscript. So they can write scripts using their own code, so developers doesn’t need to read other scripts’ source code. But if you want to ask me something about the script, i will tell you how I did it. But I think you don’t need it, because you are pro in maxscript. So I really don’t understand why you need the source code of my script.

you really have to ask that ?
you’ve never looked at anyone else’s code ? ever ?
you like re-inventing the wheel ?
with that attitude autodesk should strip all the samples snippets from the help cos us developers know it all already.
in programming someone has always done it neater, slicker, faster and in fewer lines of code.
progress is made through collaboration and learning from each other (thats why we come on here, personally I can’t stand everyone else on here but they have knowledge I sometimes need ;))

Yes, you’re right. Developers help to each other. That’s why I told him: “If you want to ask me something about the script, i will tell you how I did it.”

how magnanimous and open of you.

I don’t know why you flout me. If you want to learn from other developers, you have to ask. Me too. I have a lot of thread in this forum with my questions. But I never asked somebody to give the source code of his script.

There are two types of developers:

  1. Ask everything they want to know. And give thanks, if somebody helped.

  2. Learn from source codes, but never put a question, because they will loose the respect. Because they are very big, and very clever developers, and they never need help. So these are the developers, who need the source code of other developer’s script.

What is it?
Topic name is “Beta test” and it posted into “3dsMax SDK and MaxScript”.
Where are the rules that say that here all the scripts have to be not encrypted?
The heavenlypictures has written a free maxscript and posted it into the forum “3dsMax SDK and MaxScript”.

It’s generous for users to share non commercial scripts with others around the community so others can build as well as further develop and learn from ones code. I’m not a maxscript pro and i’ve learned most of all my scripting by tearing apart others scripts. so you posting your code as an un-encrypted file allows users to make improvements which you and others can learn from. Just a thought. It’s then a free learning experience for you and the community. If anything your missing out on that, but if it’s a script you find worth keeping secret due to the work and time you put into developing it, then do so, as I would do the same.
