[Closed] Automate geometry creation
Hello people,
I have an idea here but i’m clueless about how to make it happen.
I’m not sure the topic name is accurate, but, i have an aluminium framed door that i use in multiple projects i make, it’s simple, like one profile that surrounds a glass foil (its for furniture and i’m pretty sure anyone that works with archviz knows it) with a handle which size may vary and sometimes, depending on a few variables it may have or not an horizontal crossing profile or two.
So, i have the model and i have even the material IDs set for it, and now i want to be able to create it, like i do with windows in the geometry creation section of 3D max.
I know it can be done, i’m just not sure HOW to do it.
Can someone help?
Hi Miauu,
Well, this script helps a LOT, but i want to make it custom, for example, define the height of the handle, if there will be one, two, or none crossbars and the weight of the visible part of the surrounding profile (0, 3 or 5 mm).
I want to create a script or macro that allows me to fully personalize the object, according to the project needs.
The script above, helps replicating simple geometry or even complex ones since they are static, but what i need is time saving and since i might need to create on for each application (more than one per project) it would save time, but i know there is a way to save even more, i’m not so sure WHICH way!
Thanks a lot for the tip, it will be really usefull and i’ll keep looking for more information, if you’d like to share some more, you’re really welcome!
There’s Bobo’s MaxScript: Scripting a Plug-in series on youtube that’s detailing how to create your custom scripted primitive geometry plug-in. Doesn’t get any easier, I’m afraid. You can also have a look at my Star primitive which is a really bare-bones version of a parametric object where you build the mesh yourself and is intended as a starting point that wouldn’t discourage complete beginners.
Thanks Swordslayer,
More valuable tips and i guess it’ll help me a lot getting where i need, much appreciated!
