[Closed] Are Scripts essentials?

Hi all,

Sorry for this noob question but i’am relatively new in 3d world. I have 3d max 6 and begening to understanding the concept of materials and modeling. What I want to know is how essential maxscript are to make good works. Can I just take pre-write script or i should make my own?

VERY interesting question.
99% of the users have little or no knowledge of scripting.
But most of them at least know how to install and use 3rd party scripts.
(And there are thousands of scripts out there, see Scriptspot)
IMHO, not knowing the basics of scripting is like not knowing the keyboard shortcuts of Max – you will eventually get your work done, but much slower.
And I don’t mean becoming a programmer, I am speaking of simple command-line access using the MAXScript Listener to affect multiple objects, do some things the UI does not allow you to do or does it very slowly etc.
This week, a new Fundamentals DVD is due out from CG Academy which will teach people exactly these skills.
Also check out the “MAXScript For New and Casual Users” chapter in the MAXScript Reference which will explain the basics of installing and locating 3rd party scripts into your system.
