[Closed] 3dsmax does not response when reset or load

Hi,
This is a strange thing I got recently,some friends told me ,their 3dsmax scenes cannot response when just reseting scene,but you can do other operations normally except “reset,new”,that means,if you will empty 3dsmax,it will no response,after you waiting 10 or more minutes,it still let you waiting…,I tested their scene ,whatever 3dsmax 2011 ,or other versions,has the same issue ,but some other scenes (made not by them) can reset within 5 seconds.
this code is ok for most scenes but no response for very few scene

loadMaxFile "c:\	est.max"

So what’s going on with those scenes?How to fix that?

We have the same issue in many of our scenes, I have not figured out exactly whats causing this.
But I have noticed that the ‘autodesk infocenter’ ( WSCommCntr4.exe ) process hangs, and often when I kill that one it proceeds to load\reset etc.

I think may the AutoCAD caused,see my attachment,some scenes merged shapes via AutoCAD ,then,make 3dsmax no response.
By the way,I can’t find the wscommcntr4.exe,where is it?And could we kill it via maxscript ?

I just test,I kill the WSCommCntr4.exe,but the 3dsmax still no response :banghead:

Importing autocad shapes is very demanding on 3dsmax, especially when they are multiple shapes and such in the scene.

I usually flatten the drawing in autocad, then in max I attach what ever possible as spline shapes, to get the spline shape object count down.
(that’s also a demanding process todo, if you attach to many shapes at once it takes forever for max to update again)…

On my end I get this issue regardless if I have imported autocad stuff or not.

The process I mentioned is located here on my system:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\WSCommCntr4\lib\

You can kill it from maxscript by issuing a taskkill command with the ‘hiddenDOSCommand’:

hiddenDOSCommand ("taskkill /IM WSCommCntr4.exe")

Thanks,but I still don’t know how to fix it even after killed the WSCommCntr4.exe,the process still let you waiting…

Could you upload one of the scenes you have issues with?
Makes it easier to debug.

3dsmax 2011 or higher can open

It’s hanging when I reset after opening your scene.
I do have a autodesk support account, and since this happens with other things that I have at work – is it OK for you if I use your sample scene and send it all to autodesk support so that they can look into it?

And if they figure out what it is then obviously the solution will be shared back here again.

Sure ,of course ,please help me to send it with your support account,I really want to get a solution,because this might happens in other scene next time,thanks too much.

I sent it in this morning, and they responded now, and I elaborated on what’s going on.
I tested with 3dsmax 2012 and 2014, and I get the same issue in both versions.

I’ll update as soon as I know more…

Thanks for sharing your scene, it’s nice to know that it seems to follow certain scenes.
We only have issues with some of them, so there has to be a bug somewhere causing it.

OK,many thanks!

I tried the sample file out of curiosity.

  1. I happened to be in Max 2015 on the first try.
    It complained about missing VRay 2.10.01 (no VRay in my 2015 yet) but the strange part was the missing classes that were in a mix of English and Chinese.
    I don’t know how a Chinese VRay looks like but maybe there was a version overlap in the system that produced the sample scene.
    There’s an ies light too with a Chinese name (was it a Chinese 3dsMax that made the scene?)

  2. Second try in Max 2014 with VRay 3.x.
    It started rendering the scene (around 8,000 lights?) but it crashed on preparation.

  3. Then Max 2013 with VRay 2.4.x
    I did a reset right after loading the scene.
    Max was running with very high CPU and presumably in a loop of a few calls dealing with .NET 4.0.30319. I kiiled the task.

So, wrong VRay setup, non-ASCII mixup, messed up .NET framework installation, some limit (like lights?) going out of range.

I don’t know what’s exactly caused,maybe is one of them,the important thing is ,is this issue can fix or not, and how :rolleyes:

Got a reply today:

I’m currently review globally your issue, and there is something that ring me bells, it that the unload texture, or plugins during the close and scene reset could be the issue here.

Try rename the ENU folder

C:\Users”active user”\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2012 – 64bit

C:\Users”active user”\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2014 – 64bit

Another concern could be self made plugin that load at the start of 3ds Max.

Then there is another possibility, is the 3ds Max himself.

Could you please exchange with us a (“Save As” / “Archive”) this will allow us to test in our lab, and make a request to our developers if we don’t find the origin of this issue in the support side.

Could you supply a ‘file->archive’ of the scene you previously uploaded?
If so then I can submit it again as they request.
