[Closed] 3DS Max Ninja – Scripts & Plugins

Hi Guys,

I’ve been working on this little side project in my spare time.

http://www.3dsmax.ninja

After installing the plugin (Download Link in top menu) you will be able to browse the website, simply clicking any of the Run buttons will automatically ‘soft’ install and run the plugin / script.

It’s a great way of trying out new scripts without the hassle of installing lots of scripts and getting those annoying startup errors

It’s 100% free and community driven.

It be great to get some feedback from this awesome community.

Cheers
Michael

I appreciate the initiative and the amount of work involved, but don’t you feel you should ask permission from the people whose scripts you are offering on your website?

You bring up a great point, It’s one thing I currently working on fixing. I’m working on a system so users can create an account and submit there own work.

If there’s anything on here that people don’t want I’ll take it down instantly. I don’t want to annoy any 3dsmax developers. I just wanted to try and make something cool to let people try scripts out super quickly.

If anyone is interested in helping with the development of this please get in touch, I need all the help I can get

At the very least you should give a link to where you found the content, e.g. Scriptspot, if not the developer’s homepage.

Most of the scripts have the author / website and email associated with them.

While some dialogs may have text & link to the original script creator… it’s not immediately apparent. It would be a courtesy… a sign of respect to give the Creator’s name and your source link just after your script titled weblinks, or somewhere. I think that’s what lo is saying…

Thanks for the input I will add this to the main list.

I’ve almost got the auto package and accounts working, might be a good time to clear the scripts and start again.

it looks like a missed point… this is not enough to give a credit and post a link to the author.
if some one posted a script on ‘scriptstop’ it doesn’t automatically mean that this script is free to be posted everywhere.

the owner of this site (see above) has to ask an author’s permission for distribution his script on the site.

I’m not totally clear here:
To you “download” scripts from the links found on scriptspot and host them on your site ?
If yes – this would get you in really grey area and i for one would never agree to that.
I initially had the impression that you only place links to the original downloads on your site

Could you explain in one sentence what you do exactly on your site and if the above is true?

Looking at the url call the flash button makes, it seems be using the clipboard to signal a listening tool in max to the the heavy lifting.

Yep, just press a button and see the clipboard
Like:

PnP:: http://www.3dsmax.ninja/wp-content/uploads/Simple-Traffic-Scene.zip

So all content is currently hosted on the site.
Even though I applaud the effort of opening up more tools to max and I understand you need some tools to get things started, it isn’t very “clean” to rip files from scriptspot and repackage them. Another script (Lego head) is altered to suit the paths Ninja uses, so all scripts where manually checked and if needed altered to fit the system. This is the time maxscript and scriptspot and others should probably add a license to their scripts. I believe in general that if code is released on the web, the code is still copyrighted to the author and permission should be granted.

If you opt-in your service or collaborate with scriptspot as on optional service, that would make sense.
If you’d open source the software that would be awesome too. I can see that all links now go through google analytics, so that begs the question about the bigger scheme.

Please enlighten!

Thanks guys for your feedback,

I’ve removed all posts and will contact the authors for permission to use their scripts.
I do hope people like the idea, be great to the 3dsmax community behind it.

If you have a something you want to share on here please get in touch.
