[Closed] [Basic question] MaxScript / Expressions for animations?
Hi guys,
I’m pretty much of a newbie when it comes to coding in MAX, the only thing I’ve done is playing around a little with simple expressions.
So I’m interested in animation scripting but I don’t know where to start. I couldn’t find many sources regarding this matter on the net, not even what language is being used for animation scripting. AFAIK there are expressions and MaxScript, while MaxScript is used for PlugIns and expressions for animations.
Can anybody clear this up for me, which language can be used for controlling animations and where are places to learn this kind of stuff (articles, tutorials, books)?
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
eClaW
Well there are two languages used, but Max script is the main one. The expression controller in Max uses a different syntax but it isn’t use that much any more. Max script can be use in script controllers that can directly control tracks of animation on just about anything. Max script is also used to write scripted utilities, tools, scripted plugins or just about anything else that you can think of wanting to do inside of Max.
My character rigging series covers the use of script controllers and some scripted tools for rigging. You can find those at http://cg-academy.net . If you are really interested in understand what Max script is and how it can be used have a look at CGA for the Max Script DVD’s some of which have been created by Borislav Petrov (aka Bobo) arguably the number one Max script artist on the planet.
The help files might be the best place to start with the tutorials that ship with Max and again many of those have been create by Bobo as he is the one that has been supporting the Max script help documents for some time now.
